Scholarship Program

Beginning with the 2005-06 school year, the Gulf Coast Association of School Personnel Administrators (GCASPA) will be awarding a scholarship to assist college students seeking their initial teaching certification and/or endorsement. The scholarship will be a minimum of $1000 for one year. The scholarship will be awarded during the semester that the recipient is student teaching. Checks will be sent directly to the financial aid representative to verify that the applicant is a full-time student and is pursuing a prescribed course of study for initial teacher certification and/or endorsement before applying any money to the costs.

 

This scholarship will be awarded to a recipient who will be

student teaching during the Fall of 2008 or Spring of 2009.

 

Application materials must be submitted to the GCASPA Scholarship Chairperson by May 1, 2008.

 

General Criteria - applicants must meet each criterion.

 

· Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.

· Submit two (2) letters of support from university based personnel addressing the merits of the candidate. One letter should be from the Director of Student Teaching or designated representative. If the letter is from a designated representative, the signature of the director is still required.

· Submit official documentation (transcript) supporting that the student:

· Attained at least junior standing as defined by the institution.

· Met the required grade point average at the time of application to be eligible for admittance into the teacher education program.

 

Weighted Criteria - applicants do not have to meet each criterion.

 

· Work experience that has been applied to college expenses.

· Seeking initial certification and/or endorsement in a state-identified critical shortage area.

· Awards or other recognitions.

· Other scholarship or financial aid support (as a demonstration of recognized financial need and merit).

· Parent(s)/legal guardian or sibling currently in the teaching profession.

· Graduate of a Gulf Coast area high school.

· Attending a Gulf Coast area college or university.

· Planning to teach in a Gulf Coast area public school district.
